Women’s Cross Country Enjoys Another Strong Day, Places Fourth at Wilmington Invitational

WILMINGTON, Ohio – For the second time in the last week, the St. Bonaventure women's cross country team made a long trek west, and for the second time the Bonnies turned in an impressive effort.

The Bonnies finished fourth in a field of 33 teams Friday afternoon at the JennaStrong Fall Classic. Ohio State took the team crown with 41 points while Wright State was second with 46 points. Kenyon was third at 115 points while St. Bonaventure posted 169 points. Northern Kentucky was fifth at 174.

Sydney Beeman again took her regular spot at the front of the pack for the Bonnies as she finished the 5K course in a time of 19:14.4 to take 20th overall in the field of 316 runners competing in the event.

"It was a very challenging course with hills, bridges and muddy terrain," head coach Bob MacFarlane said. "But they fared well, running very close to last week's times that was in much more favorable conditions."

Beeman was just three seconds off last weekend's time at the Louisville Classic where she posted the eighth-fastest individual time in program history.

Samantha Henry took 28th overall with a mark of 19:26.9, just eight seconds off her PR effort from last weekend that stands ninth in the Bona record books.

Amberlee Robertson crossed the finish line in 33rd at 19:38.1, less than two seconds off her PR last Saturday.

Lindsey Clawson also was in the scoring for the Brown and White, giving the team a fourth runner to break the 20-minute barrier at 19:58.1 in 44th-place. Stephanie Barry wrapped up the team's top-five at 20:09.1 for 49th overall.

Displacers for the Bonnies were Emma Larkman (20:10.9) and Theresa Dristle (20:23.3).

In the past three events, the Bona women have placed third out of 19 teams at the Anderson Invitational in Rochester, sixth out of 62 squads in Louisville and now another top-five.

The Bonnies are next in competition Nov. 2 at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Fairfax, Va.
