AMHERST, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's track team opened its 2021 season with its first outdoor meet since 2019, competing in the UB Mid-Week Invite Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Samantha Henry bettered her previous PR in the 3000 meters by nearly 10 seconds, finishing in 11:26.70 with a mark that will rank second in school history. Juniors Theresa Dristle (11:31.25) and Lindsey Lytle (11:33.04) also turned in personal bests with the third and fourth fastest times in Bona history respectively in the event. Sophomore Emma Larkman turned in another PR at 11:36.79 to rank fifth in the school record book.
"After 13 months of no competition and limited practices, our runners were a little fearful of their ability to perform well, but as the meet progressed that fear was replaced by excitement and a simple desire to run with their heart and what they could accomplish on any given day," head coach Bob MacFarlane said. "We are very happy with the results of today's meet and now we are going back to practice with a renewed energy of performing at a higher level at the next meet."
The Bonnies return to action April 10, again at UB.
