Women's Tennis Begins Fall Season at Navy Invitational

The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team begins the 2021 fall season at the Navy Invitational Friday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis, MD. Action is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m. Friday and 9:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday morning.

This year's Navy Invitational features five singles flights and three doubles flights over the three day invitational. Also competing at the Navy Invitational along side the Bonnies are Navy, Binghamton, Bucknell, Fairleigh Dickinson, Lehigh, Mary Washington and Monmouth.

Bonnies head coach Michael Bates returns six members from last year's team led by seniors Andrea Roque, Emily Stanley and Paula Velilla. In singles action this past spring, Roque and Stanley registered three wins each while Velilla added a singles win. Stanley was second on the Bonnies last season with five doubles wins while Roque and Velilla each registered four wins in doubles.

Amelia Haley, Amara Young and Anastasia Gubanova also return to the Bonnies in 2021-22. As a freshman last season, Gubanova led the Bonnies with six doubles wins and was second on the team with four singles victories. Haley tallied three wins in singles and doubles play last year while Young earned one doubles win while working back from an injury.

Alexandra Jansson is the lone newcomer this year to the Bonnies, joining the squad from Mariestad, Sweden.

The Bonnies travel to Buffalo for the UB Duals Saturday, Sept. 18.
