The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team is set for a pair of matches this Friday and Saturday. The Bonnies will first travel to Ohio to take on Youngstown State Friday, Feb. 26 beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Brown and White then return home to host Mercyhurst Saturday with that match also scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies are coming off their first victory of the season, 4-3, over St. Francis (Pa.) Sunday, Feb. 14. The duo of Andrea Roque and Sofia Franco earned a victory at the top doubles flight while Emily Stanley and Buse Gunay team up for a win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point for the Bonnies. Franco, Gunay and Amara Young claimed singles victories to lead the Bonnies to the win.
ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins are currently 4-6 overall on the season and have lost two straight matches. YSU lost back-to-back matches against Ball State last weekend. Prior to their two-match skid, the Penguins won three straight with wins over IUP (7-0), Duquesne (6-1) and Toledo (5-2). Youngstown State also has a 5-2 win over Eastern Michigan this season.
Saturday will be the first competition of the 2020-21 for the Lakers. Last season, Mercyhurst was 4-5 before the spring sports shutdown, securing wins over Kutztown (7-0), East Stroudsburg (7-0), Daemen (6-1) and Ashland (6-1). The Lakers return seven players from last year's team and welcome Valentine Budin to the roster.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, March 6 on the road at Little Three rival Niagara. That match is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
