Bonnies Defeat St. Francis But Fall To Western Michigan

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team went 1-2 last weekend, picking up a 4-3 victory over St. Francis Sunday afternoon at the SBU Fitness Center after a doubleheader setback vs. Western Michigan the previous day.

The Bonnies hosted Western Michigan Saturday afternoon for a pair of matches. The Broncos were able to take both matches from the Bonnies, winning match one 7-0 and won match two, 4-0, to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Bona's regrouped Sunday against St. Francis, gaining momentum early by taking the doubles point.

Andrea Roque and Sofia Franco earned a 7-6 win at the top flight while Emily Stanley and Buse Gunay teamed up for a win at No. 2, 6-2.

In singles action, Franco got things started at No. 1 with a straight set victory over Nagisa Miyake. Gunay battled to a key three-set win over Anouk Ma-Ajong, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Amara Young won by default to secure the 4-3 victory for the Bonnies.

The Bonnies are back in action Friday, Feb. 26 on the road at Youngstown State. That match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
