Women's Tennis Hosts Western Michigan, St. Francis For Weekend Matches

The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team hosts Western Michigan and St. Francis (Pa.) this weekend at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center. The Bonnies and Western Michigan will play a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 13 with the first match scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. On Sunday, the Bonnies and St. Francis are slated to start at 2:00 p.m.

The Bonnies opened their 2021 spring season last weekend with a pair of matches. Bona began the year on the road at Buffalo, falling 6-1. Newcomer Sofia Franco picked up the lone point for the Bonnies against the Bulls, earning a singles win. The Bonnies hosted Duquesne in the home opener last Sunday, but fell 5-2. The Brown and White grabbed the doubles point after winning No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Paula Velilla also picked up a three-set singles win for the Bonnies against Duquesne.

Western Michigan enters Saturday with a 3-0 record with a pair of wins over Ferris State and another win over Valparaiso. Last season before the spring sports shutdown, the Broncos had a record of 6-6 overall. So far this season, Western Michigan is 2-0 at home and 1-0 on the road.

This weekend marks the first competition for the Red Flash women's tennis team this spring as they open their season Saturday at Buffalo before taking on the Bonnies Sunday afternoon. Before getting its season cut short last year, St. Francis was 1-11 with the lone win coming against Mercyhurst, 5-2.

The Bonnies return to action Friday, Feb. 26 on the road at Youngstown State. That match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
