ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team fell to Buffalo, 6-1, and Duquesne, 5-2, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to open the 2021 season.
On Saturday against the Bulls, freshman Sofia Franco picked up the Bonnies' only point with a singles victory in her Bona debut.
In the Bonnies' home opener Sunday afternoon against Duquesne, the Brown and White were able to take the doubles point and grabbed a singles win.
The pair of Anastasia Gubanova and Andrea Roque bested Margot Pessy and Natasha Novak at the top doubles flight, 6-4, while Emily Stanley and Buse Gunay took down Priyanka Mitta and Ana Benito, 6-1, to claim the doubles point for the Bonnies.
In singles action against the Dukes, Paula Velilla earned a three-set victory over Mitta, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Feb. 13 when Western Michigan comes to town for a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the SBU Fitness Center.
