Women's Tennis Defeats Bucknell, 7-0, In Home Opener

OLEAN, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team won eight out of nine matches to defeat Bucknell, 7-0, Saturday morning at the SBU Tennis Center.

The Bonnies started the match by taking the doubles point away from the Bison. Emily Stanley and Amelia Haley teamed up to defeat Sofia Ayuso and Jill Auteri, 6-4. The Bonnies clinched the doubles point after Kahlei Reisinger and Paula Velilla bested Rachel Carroll and Chloe Zilkha, 6-2.

Momentum carried into singles play for the Bonnies, winning all six matches en route to victory.

Penelope Abreu took down Dax Seidlin, 7-6, 7-5, while Haley was victorious against Paige Leavy, 7-6, 6-2, at the top two singles positions. At No. 3, Andrea Roque earned a win over Ayuso in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Stanley needed three sets to take care of Auteri, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, at the No. 4 position and Reisinger beat Carroll in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5. Buse Gunay completed the sweep of singles, defeating Zilkha in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.

The Bonnies are back in action Sunday, Feb. 9 on the road at Colgate. That match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
