Bonnies Sail Past Explorers, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over La Salle Saturday morning in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Brown and White started its day by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The lefty duo of Kahlei Reisinger and Emily Stanley took down Brittany Poje and Aleks Nikolic, 6-3. Securing the doubles point for the Bonnies was Buse Gunay and Paula Velilla, who won convincingly, 6-0, over Jazmin Walle and Maansi Malhorta.

In singles play, Penelope Abreu started the winning with a three-set victory against Tiffany Theophil, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, at the No. 1 flight.

The Bonnies (8-13) were winners at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to take the match from the Explorers. Gunay bested Nikolic at No. 4 in the three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. At No. 5, Stanley battled to a 6-1, 5-7, 11-9 win against Walle while Velilla was victorious over Malhorta in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

Bona is back in action Sunday, April 7 in Philadelphia against Saint Joseph's. Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
