ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University's women's tennis team will welcome Duquesne and Slippery Rock as part of a doubleheader on Saturday at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center.
The Bonnies will first play Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne and then round out the day vs. Slippery Rock.
St. Bonaventure dropped its last match at home against Akron, 7-0, on Saturday. In No. 3 singles, Dominique Mortier battled in the first set but fell, 6-4, 6-2. In No. 5 singles, Kahlei Reisinger matched her opponent throughout, but got edged, 7-5, in the second set. In doubles action, all three pairs of Mara Martinez-Santori and Gabriella Bowe, Clara Herberts and Kahlei Reisinger, and Francesca Chin and Lauren Doversola all worked scores of 6-3 in their respective matches. The loss dropped the Bonnies to 1-5 on the spring season.
The Duquesne women's tennis team is coming off a 7-0 sweep of Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Feb. 5. Kylie Isaacs (6-1, 6-1), Aishwarya Kona (6-3, 6-4), Julianne Herman (6-2, 6-2), Ally Miller (6-3, 6-3) and Laurel Shymansky (6-0, 6-1) each had straight-set victories in singles competition. Sara Mitrovic (3-6, 6-1, 10-6) won the No. 6 in three sets, with Duquesne sweeping SJU in singles matches. The teams of Issacs and Herman (6-0) and Shymanksy and Koralie Etienne (6-3) earned wins for the Dukes in doubles competition. The match opened Atlantic 10 conference play for Duquesne. The win improved the Dukes' record to 4-2 in the spring season.
The Slippery Rock women's tennis team got swept in their last matchup, a 9-0 decision to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Feb. 4. For SRU, the doubles teams of Nina Barbano and Amanda Bruscemi, and Lacey Cohen and Carla Corrochano Moracho lost tight decisions of 8-5 and 9-8, respectively. In the No. 1 singles contest, Cohen lost a hard-fought battle 6-1, 3-6, 10-3.
Action against Duquesne will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the match against Slippery Rock following at 2:00 a.m.
