ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team will take part in the Navy Invitational to start its 2016 fall season, beginning on Friday and spanning through Sunday.
Head coach Michael Bates welcomes three new players into the fold this season: Clara Herberts, Nicole Kozinski and Kahlei Reisinger. He said the new players can complement the many returning players on the roster.
"We've got five of my six back from last year," Bates said. "We've picked up three new players, who also, I think, can step right in and right away and give us some help."
The returning players on this year's women's team are juniors Gabriella Bowe, Francesca Chin and Dominique Mortier, as well as seniors Lauren Doversola and Mara Martinez-Santori. The return of Martinez-Santori and Bowe allows the Bonnies to keep their two top singles players from last year as well as their top doubles pairing.
Martinez-Santori earned All-Conference second team honor and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete last season.
"She's been playing in the first position for the last year or so, I think she can step up," Bates said. "I think we need all our players to step up and contribute right away."
This year's team has a mix of international and American players. Doversola, Kozinski and Reisinger are all from the United States, with Doversola coming from Hawaii, and Kozinski and Reisinger being from New York.
The international players include Bowe and Mortier from the Bahamas, Chin from Jamaica, Herberts from Sweden, and Martinez-Santori from Puerto Rico.
