GENEVA, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team won three out of four dual meets at the Atlantic 10 Classic at the Spire Institute during weekend competition.
The Bonnies used six wins over two days, defeating La Salle (195-156), Saint Louis (180.50-172.50) and George Mason (185-161). The Brown and White's only loss of the weekend came against Duquesne, a team that has won the last two Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, 194-158.
Leading the way for the Bonnies were junior Katrina Wardner and sophomore Rachel Kimmel who each won two individual events. Wardner captured victory in the 200-IM with a time of 2:05.95 and followed that by winning the 400-IM with a time of 4:28.24. Kimmel was able to sweep both breaststroke events, winning the 100 with a mark of 1:03.28 and finishing the 200 in 2:17.98.
Kimmel and Wardner teamed up with Zanre Oberholzer and Mia Cote to win the 400-medley relay, ringing in at 3:52.63. Oberholzer, Kimmel and Cote then joined Ivana Janssen and turned in a time of 1:47.35 to win the 200-medley relay.
Also taking podium finishes for the Bonnies were Cote, Janssen and Claire Schaef.
Cote placed second in the 100-butterfly (58.17) and Janssen grabbed second place in the 50-freestyle (24.37). Schaef swam to a third-place finish in the 1650-freestyle with a time of 17:45.36.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Nov. 9 on the road at Cornell. That meet is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
