ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team won five events in their first action of 2019 Monday at the Reilly Center Pool, but the visiting Cornell Big Red was able to do enough to pull out a 137-103 team victory in dual meet action.
Freshman Ivana Janssen earned the first victory for the Bonnies in the 50-freestyle. Janssen swam a 24.28 to capture the win.
In the 200-IM, Katrina Wardner added to the Bonnies' point total by winning with a time of 2:08.39.
Also winning for the Bonnies was Rachel Kimmel in the 100-breaststroke. Kimmel posted a time of 1:03.97, six seconds ahead of second place. Brittany Hart took first place in the 1-meter dive with a total score of 257.55.
To close out the day in the pool, the Bonnies took first and second place in the 200-freestyle relay. Winning the event with a time of 1:39.60 was the team of Cote, Wardner, Taylor and Janssen. In second place, Marissa Carrig, Kamryn Paige, Erin Carmody and Kimmel combined for a time of 1:46.16.
Senior Rachel Taylor also turned in a second place effort for the Bonnies in the 200-freestyle, clocking in at 1:59.80.
The Brown and White return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 26 when they visit the Binghamton Bearcats. Action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
