AKRON, Ohio – The pair of 200-freestyle relay teams led the St. Bonaventure women's swimming team Friday at the Akron Zippy Invite.
The Bonnies currently sit in ninth place with 87 team points. Host Akron sits atop the leaderboard after day one with 734.5 points and Buffalo is second with 482.5.
The team of Ivana Janssen, Katrina Wardner, Rachel Taylor and Mia Cote qualified for the "B" final of the 200-freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:36.39 and finishing in 12th place. Also scoring for the Bonnies in the 200-freestyle relay was the team of Rachel Kimmel, Erin Carmody, Marissa Carrig and Emerson Graham in the "C" final, finishing in 1:41.14.
Wardner also made appearances in the 200-IM and the 400-medley relay finals. In the 200-IM "B" final, the sophomore finished in 16th overall with a time of 2:09.11. Later on in the night, she teamed up with Tayler Gnan, Emerson Graham and Rachel Taylor in the 400-medley relay, swimming a combined time of 4:01.23.
Freshman Ivana Janssen qualified for the "B" final of the 50-freestyle and touching the wall in 23.77 during the night session, finishing in 15th place.
The Bonnies return to the pool Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. for preliminary heats. Final heats are scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
