Bonnies Women's Swimming and Diving Debuts at Home With Victory Over Canisius

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team won 13 out of 16 events to defeat Canisius, 196-102, in its home opener Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Bonnies' record to 7-2 on the season.

Seniors Devon McFadden and Maria Rocchi paced the Bonnies with McFadden winning three events and Rocchi victorious in two. The senior duo teamed with freshmen Mia Cote and Katrina Wardner in the 200-medley relay, touching first in a time of 1:48.26.

McFadden was also the winner of the 200-backstroke (2:07.52) and the 200-IM (2:09.93) while Rocchi won the 200-breaststroke by swimming a time of 2:21.62.

Wardner, Kathryn Godlewski, Rachel Taylor and Gerle Kerecsen took first in the 400-freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.29 to complete the sweep of the relays.

The Bonnies also swept the top three spots in the 1-meter dive. Anna Campos scored a 259.73 to take the top spot while Brittany Hart came in second with a total score of 253.38. Elena Rohr was third with a 244.58 cumulative score. Riley Parker finished first in the 3-meter dive as well with a 272.40 score.

Kerecsen, another of the Bonnies' standout freshmen, was the winner of the 100-butterfly (58.88), 100-breaststroke (1:04.64) and the 50-freestyle (24.11).

Lina Kutsko continued her winning ways placing first in the 200-butterfly (2:03.84) and 100-freestyle (51.14). She has now won all 24 individual and relay events she has competed in during her first season with the Bonnies.

Kutsko will be representing the Brown and White at the Winter Nationals in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 29 and 30.

The next competition for the entire team will be the Zippy Invitational at Akron University on Dec. 1.
