ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- The St. Bonaventure University women's swimming and diving team will host its second consecutive home meet of the 2016-17 season this weekend when Central Connecticut comes to the Reilly Center Pool for a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday.
The meet will total 19 events between Friday and Saturday, including 1-meter diving (Friday) and 3-meter diving (Saturday). 10 total events will take place Friday, while the remaining nine will be on Saturday. Friday's events will begin at 5:00 p.m. while diving kicks off Saturday's events at 9:00 a.m.
The meet will be Central Connecticut's first of the 2016-17 season. Last season, the team finished with its second straight NEC championship, beating the next closest team by 70 points. Now in her senior year, Christine Rasile won the meets outstanding swimmer, being a member of four relay winning teams and winning the 50, 100 and 200-freestyle events as a junior. Junior Maddy Garber is a U.S. Olympics qualifier in the breastroke.
The Bonnies are coming off a 163-137 loss to Youngstown State last Saturday, though they did put together some winning performances. The Bonnies got off of the right track early, capturing a win in the meet's first event. The 200-medley relay team of Devon McFadden, Maria Rocchi, Bridget Jordan and Rachel Taylor earned the victory with a time of 1:51.12. Capitalizing off her contribution to the relay win, junior Maria Rocchi highlighted the meet's individual events for the Brown and White with wins in the 200-medley relay (1:51.12), and the 100 (1:07.40) and 200 (2:26.88) breaststroke events. Fellow junior Alyssa Levac followed Rocchi with second-place finishes in both breaststroke events, coming in at 1:07.48 in the 100 and 2:30.18 in the 200. The Bonnies also got a win from junior Devon McFadden in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.24, in which freshman Theresa Hutton finished second at 59.60.
The Bonnies' next meets will be against Cleveland State on Oct. 21 and then Colgate on Oct. 22, both at the RC Pool.
