ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to George Washington in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader at Joyce Field Sunday morning.
The Colonials shutout the Bonnies in game one, 6-0, and then grabbed the win in game two, 14-5.
Following its game one victory, George Washington (33-8, 23-1 A-10) clinched the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
GAME 1 – George Washington 6, St. Bonaventure 0
Sierra Lange kept the Bonnies off the board, tossing a complete game shutout while striking out eight in the Colonials game one win.
GW got on the board in the top of the third, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Colonials added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth on a triple and then two more runs on a single and a triple in the sixth, putting the game out of reach.
Emily Phalen earned the start in game one, working 3.0 innings and surrendered seven hits. Tierney Fitzgerald pitched four innings in relief and struck out a pair of batters.
GAME 2 – George Washington 14, St. Bonaventure 5
After tying the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning, the Bonnies were able to retake the lead after an RBI ground out from Kennedy Haberl.
George Washington would not trail for long as Alessandra Ponce blasted a grand slam, putting the Colonials back on top, 8-5, in the top of the fourth.
The Colonials would add on to their lead from there, plating six more runs in the final three innings to secure the win.
The Bonnies season ends with an overall record of 2-26 and 2-22 in A-10 play.
