Bonnies Drop Four-Game Series To Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell in a four-game series on the road at Saint Louis this weekend.

The Bonnies dropped a pair of games Friday to open the series, falling in game one, 7-4, and then had a rally fall short in game two, losing 4-3.

The Billikens picked up where they left off Sunday morning, taking game one 13-2 and then completing the four-game sweep over the Bonnies, 7-5, in the nightcap.

Grace Perechinsky was red hot at the plate this weekend, slashing .500/.583/1.100 with two home runs and eight RBI.

GAME 1 – Saint Louis 7, St. Bonaventure 4 – Box Score (PDF)
Perechinsky belted a three-run home run to centerfield in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Billikens, however, scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth to retake the lead, 6-3.

Saint Louis added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single.

Kennedy Haberl singled home Samantha Moll in the top of the seventh to try and spark a late rally, but the Bonnies would not get any closer.

Saint Louis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a run in the second and a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

Ally Haskell earned the start in game one Saturday, working 3.1 innings and scattered 12 hits. Elizabeth Lis tossed the final 2.2 innings, striking out four and allowed just five hits.

GAME 2 – Saint Louis 4, St. Bonaventure 3 – Box Score (PDF)
Perechinsky opened the scoring in game two with an RBI single, scoring Emily Lewandowski in the opening frame.  

Saint Louis evened the game, 1-1, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.

Sadie Wise gave the Billikens a one-run cushion with a solo blast to left field in the bottom of the third.

Two more Billiken runners touched home in the fifth off an RBI single and an RBI double, giving Saint Louis a 4-1 advantage.

Perechinsky drove in her second and third RBIs of the game in the seventh on a single, bringing the Bonnies within one, but the Billikens would shut down the rally once again.

Tierney Fitzgerald tossed a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out two.

GAME 3 – Saint Louis 13, St. Bonaventure 2 – Box Score (PDF)
Saint Louis scored eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam in the bottom of the first to put game one Sunday morning out of reach early.

The Bonnies were able to pull one back on a Grace Walker RBI single in the top of the third.

The Billikens responded, tacking on five more runs in the bottom half of the third thanks to two home runs.

The Bonnies pushed a second run across when Macy Miller scored Shannon Costello on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

Emily Phalen got the start Sunday morning, working 2.1 innings. Olivia Moon pitched in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and surrendering just three hits.

GAME 4 – Saint Louis 7, St. Bonaventure 5 – Box Score (PDF)
The Bonnies led 5-2 going into the bottom of the fourth but were unable to hang on.

Perechinsky continued her outstanding weekend with her second home run of the series in the top of the first, giving the Bonnies an early 2-0 lead.

Saint Louis knotted the game up at 2-2 on a Sadie Wise home run in the bottom of the third.

Haley Strang put the Bonnies back on top in the top of the fourth with a two-run blast to left field and Lewandowski plated a third run in the inning on an RBI single, giving the Brown and White a 5-2 edge.

The Billikens comeback effort began in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double, pulling Saint Louis back within two, 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Gabbie Kowalik hit a three-run home run to centerfield that gave the Billikens a 6-5 advantage. Saint Louis added an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth on a sacrifice fly, putting the game out of reach.

Fitzgerald threw a complete game, allowing nine hits and striking out four.

The Bonnies are back in action Friday, April 30 when they host Dayton at Joyce Field for a doubleheader.
