Bonnies Fall To Fordham Saturday Afternoon

BRONX – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Fordham Saturday afternoon on the road.

Madison Stewart homered in game one but the Bonnies fell, 4-2, and then were defeated in game two, 8-0, in five innings.

GAME 1 – Fordham 4, St. Bonaventure 2
Stewart blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to try and spark a St. Bonaventure rally.

That it is all the closer they would get, however, as Fordham recorded the final out to earn the victory.

Fordham grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run home run and a solo round tripper.

The Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout.

Tierney Fitzgerald got the start in game one and went the distance. Fitzgerald scattered six hits and struck out three opposing batters.

GAME 2 – Fordham 8, St. Bonaventure 0 – F/5
Fordham stretched its win streak to 20 straight games by scoring all its runs in the second to take control early and never looked back.

The Rams used a three-run triple, an RBI single, a two-run double and a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to take control early in game two.

Emily Phalen earned the start in the night cap, working one inning while allowing just four hits. Ally Haskell tossed three innings in relief for the Brown and White, striking out four.

The Bonnies remain on the road with a doubleheader at Saint Louis Saturday, April 17.
