Bonnies Tripped Up At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of contests on the road to Dayton Saturday afternoon.

Haley Strang hit her second home run of the series in game one, but the Bonnies fell to the Flyers, 8-2.

In game two of the doubleheader, Dayton came out on top, 7-3, after a late rally.

The Flyers (9-12, 4-0 A-10) were able to get on the board first in game one Saturday after scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first frame.

Dayton pushed its lead to two on an RBI single in the second and added a third run in the third inning thanks to a solo home run.

Strang brought the Bonnies back within striking distance with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, making the score 3-2.

The Flyers used a five-run fifth inning to pull away from the Bonnies, earning the game one victory, 8-2.

Tierney Fitzgerald earned the start in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings and surrendering 10 hits. Elizabeth Lis entered in relief, pitching 2.0 innings and gave up just two hits.

Dayton started game two with a bang, blasting a solo home run in the bottom of the second to take an early 1-0 lead.

Strang gave the Bonnies their first lead of the day with a two-run single in the top of the third.

The Flyers, however, tied the game up 2-2 in the bottom half of the third on an RBI single.

Emily Lewandowski put the Bonnies back on top in the top of the fourth, 3-2, with an RBI single of her own.

Dayton tied the game once again in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly and then retook the lead, 5-3, after two runners crossed home on an error.

The Flyers added an insurance run in the bottom of the six, scoring on a fielder choice and securing the victory.

Emily Phalen got the ball in game two, working 5.1 innings and gave up nine hits. Ally Haskell earned the final two outs of the contest for the Bonnies and struck out one.

The Bonnies (0-10, 0-8 A-10) make their home debut Thursday, April 1 at Joyce Field against George Mason. Game one is slated for 2:00 p.m.
