ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team held its 11th annual Gift Packing Party to help children in need during the holiday season on Dec. 2.
In addition to the softball team, members of the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse, baseball, men's and women's tennis and women's soccer teams were all present. Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Love Your Melon also participated in the wrapping.
The Bonnies took donations for children ages 2-14 from the community. Some of the gifts were then wrapped and sent out to Oshei Children's Hospital in Buffalo as well as other various organizations in the area. As in years past, the Bonnies wrapped over 100 gifts for children in need.
In past years, presents have been sent all around the world including Russia, Mexico, India and Africa.
The Gift Wrapping party was founded by alum Kristin Sullivan and Grace Rooney. This year's event was led by softball senior Brooke Kane-Walker.
"We're really grateful and it's something we get really excited to do," Kane-Walker said. "Obviously we like wrapping Christmas presents, but we like giving back to children in need even more."
"We are very blessed with what we have," Bonnies head coach Mike Threehouse said. "Any time we get an opportunity to give back to the community and children especially, we look forward to those times. We are excited and blessed to do this for other people during the holiday season."
