Bonnies Softball to Host Niagara in Mid-Week Doubleheader

The St. Bonaventure University softball team will face off against little-three rival Niagara in a non-conference doubleheader. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.

The last meeting between St. Bonaventure and Niagara came earlier in the season when both teams traveled to Hawaii. The Bonnies took both games away from the Purple Eagles. The Bonnies took the first game, 3-1, to earn their first victory of 2019, and grabbed game two was won by a final score of 2-1 in eight innings.

The Bonnies grabbed one out of three at George Mason last weekend. The Bonnies won game one, 6-5, with Alyssa Yungwirth allowing only one earned run, while tossing her first career complete game. The Patriots took the final two games of the series 5-1 and 8-1. Brooke Kane-Walker had five RBIs in the series.

McKenna Holtz is tied for third in the Atlantic 10 in stolen bases. The junior has 17 stolen bases on 18 attempts. Senior Alexandra Deal is in a three-way tie for fourth with 16 stolen bases. Grace Perechinsky is currently tied for second in walks. Deal also ranks second in triples, while Holtz is third in the A-10 in triples.

Niagara is currently 12-27 overall and 9-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Jerri Ann Orfano leads the Purple Eagles at the plate with a .302 batting average with 35 hits and 20 RBIs on the season. In the circle, Sierra Bertrand has carried much of the work load for Niagara with a 3.54 ERA of and 94 strikeouts in 93.0 innings of work.

St. Bonaventure will return to Joyce Field Saturday for the final A-10 series of the year against St. Louis. First pitch in the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Sunday is Senior Day for the Bonnies, with the final game beginning at 12:00 p.m.
