Bonnies Fall to George Mason in Final Road Contest

FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University softball suffered an 8-1 setback against George Mason Sunday afternoon.

The Bonnies took an early lead in the top of the first when Brooke Kane-Walker brought Alexandra Deal across the plate. However, this would be the Bonnies only run of the game.

In the bottom of the first, the Patriots took a 2-1 lead on back-to-back RBI singles from Jess Curbeira and Taylor Dadigs.

A run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings gave George Mason a 4-1 advantage heading into the latter stages of the contest.

A four-run sixth inning from the Patriots put the game out of reach for the Bonnies.

With no outs and the bases loaded, two Patriot batters were walked to make it a 6-1 game. A sac-fly by Erikson and a single by Dadig allowed George Mason to seal the 8-1 victory over the Brown and White.

Tieney Fitzgerald earned the start for the Bonnies and threw two shutout innings before running into problems in the bottom of the sixth. Alyssa Yungwirth came in as relief, allowing one hit in one inning of work.

Sunday marked the final road Atlantic 10 conference contest for the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure will return to Joyce Field Thursday to take on Little-Three rival Niagara in a mid-week non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Bonnies final A-10 series of the year starts Saturday, May 4 against Saint Louis at Joyce Field.
