ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a 12-3 decision to Buffalo Wednesday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bulls jumped out of the gates early with a four-run first inning behind an RBI single from Alicia Peters and a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Catrell Robertson.

A solo home run from Alexis Matheney pushed the Bulls lead to 5-0 early in the top of the second. Later in the inning, an error brought in two runs and a sacrifice fly added another, making the Bulls lead 8-0.

The Bonnies got two runs back in the bottom of the second when Alexandra Piergustavo scored on an error and Grace Perechinsky scored on a wild pitch to make the game 8-2.

An RBI single in the top of the third from Anna Aguon, pushed the Bulls cushion to 9-2.

Three more runs in the top of the fifth for Buffalo put the game out of reach for good. A two-run home run from Jenna Richmond and a solo shot off the bat of Jenelle Martinez gave UB a 12-2 lead.

The Bonnies, however, cut the deficit back to single digits after Kaitlin Caringi scored when Alexandra Deal reached on a fielder's choice.

Ally Haskell earned the start, giving up six hits and striking out one in 1.1 innings of work. Tierney Fitzgerald tossed 3.1 innings in relief.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, April 27 on the road at George Mason. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
