The St. Bonaventure University softball team will play its first Atlantic 10 Conference games on the road this weekend with a three-game series against UMass. The Bonnies will compete in one game Saturday afternoon and then a doubleheader on Sunday with game one starting at noon and game two following after.
Due to inclement weather, the three-game series at UMass has been moved to Boston. The first of the three games will be played Saturday at 2:00 p.m, followed by a Sunday doubleheader beginning at noon.
St. Bonaventure and UMass last met in the 2018 season where the Minutewomen won the final game of their series 5-2, despite a late seventh inning rally for the Bonnies. Grace Perechinsky led the Bonnies at the plate with two hits in four appearances at the plate.
In the most recent game against Morehead State, freshmen Abby Borkowski and Abigail Stone put together strong performances In Sunday's game, Borkowski went 3-for-5 at the plate, while Stone went 2-for-4, hitting her first collegiate double and home run.
Seniors Alexandra Deal and Alexandra Piergustavo also showed strength at the plate for the Bonnies against Morehead State. In the two games against the Eagles, Deal went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double in the second game and Piergustavo went 3-for-8 with a RBI double in game one of the Morehead series. Throughout the last three games, Olivia Golay has also hit 4-for-9 with an RBI double and a home run.
UMass is currently 10-12 on the season. Kaitlyn Stavinoha is leading the Minutewomen at the plate with a .370 batting average and 27 hits, including 16 RBIs. In the circle, Kiara Oliver leads the team with an ERA of 2.86. Last season, Oliver was at the top of the A-10 in several categories, including strikeouts (173) and wins (18). She is currently ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in ERA. The Minutewomen were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
The Bonnies have a non-conference matchup March 27 at Youngstown State. The Wednesday doubleheader is slated to start with the first game starting at 3:00 p.m. and the second game following immediately after.
