Softball Travels to Kentucky for Four-Game Trip

The St. Bonaventure University softball team travels to Kentucky for four games against Bowling Green and Morehead State in the Morehead State Classic. This will be the final tournament for the Bonnies before beginning Atlantic 10 play next weekend.

The Bonnies traveled to Hawaii last week to compete in the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament, going 2-4. The Brown and White won a pair of games against Little Three rival Niagara, where pitching was highlighted for the Bonnies. In the first of two games, freshman Ally Haskell threw a complete game, allowing only four hits while striking out two batters. In game two, junior Rylee Hehir tossed a complete game into extra innings, allowing five hits and striking out three batters in eight innings of work, allowing one unearned run.

McKenna Holtz went 5-for-5 during the first two games of the Hawaii trip against California and Hawaii. In 10 games, Holtz is batting .345 and leads the Bonnies with 10 hits, including three doubles, and runs, with five on the season.

Bowling Green is currently 4-11 on the season. The Falcons have wins over Saint Francis (Pa.), Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State. Alex Sorgi leads Bowling Green this season with 13 hits and seven runs while batting .271. Meredith Miller is 3-6 in her career as a Falcon with an ERA of 3.76. Miller has 60 strikeouts on the season. The Falcons were picked to finish eighth in the MAC preseason poll.

Morehead State enters the tournament 0-13 on the season. Kalle Coleman is hitting .281 for the Eagles, with nine hits, including two triples and a double. Payton Slater leads the team with five RBIs. In the circle, Lakyn Largent has been tossing the majority of the games for Morehead, holding an ERA of 8.92 with 12 strikeouts 26.2 innings of work. The Eagles were picked to finished 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll.

The Bonnies begin Atlantic 10 Conference play March 23 at UMass. The Saturday doubleheader will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the Sunday contest will begin at 12:00 p.m.
