Utah Powers Past Softball in Hawaiian Finale

HONOLULU - The St. Bonaventure softball team completed its Hawaiian road trip Saturday evening with a 14-1 setback to Utah in five innings.

Utah (9-12) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first to quickly set the tone.

In her two appearances at the plate in the first, Alyssa Barrera had a two-run RBI double into left field as well as a three-run triple.

A three-run home run by BreOnna Castaneda into center field in the bottom on the second gave the Utes more offense.

The Bonnies broke Utah's shutout in the top of the fifth.

With EmmaRae Easton in scoring position, Alexandra Deal reached first on a fielding error and then advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing Easton to score.

Alyssa Yungwirth came as relief late in bottom of the first and pitched the final 3.1 innings, striking out three Utah batters.

The Bonnies (2-8) return to action March 16, against Bowling Green in Morehead, Ky. as part of a three-game trip.
