Bonnies Drop Saturday Doubleheader to Belmont, Ball State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday as part of the Tennessee State/Belmont Invitational. The Bonnies fell to Belmont 8-0 in game one. In game two, Ball State topped the Bonnies, 15-0.

Alexandra Deal, Emma Borysevicz and Hailey Blencowe collected a hit each for the Bonnies.

Alicia Veltri pitched a complete game for the Bruins (17-4).

Belmont pushed across the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning on a sac fly off the bat of Hayley Baker, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins would keep the pressure on, adding seven runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Back-to-back RBI singles from Baylee Cook and Jess Andree pushed the lead to three.

Chelsea Thomas tripled home Andree and Cook, making the Bruin lead 5-0. Two singles and a fielder's choice pushed across three more runs, extending the lead and giving Belmont an 8-0 win.

Josie Borysevicz started in the circle for the Bonnies, working 3.1 innings (6 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K). Sam Wood (1 H, 3 ER, 2 BB) and Sydney Burk (0.2 IP, 2 H) worked in relief for the Brown and White.

Game Two – Ball State 15, St. Bonaventure 0 (5 innings) | Box Score (PDF)

Aeshia Miles and Alyssa Rothwell combined for a no-hitter to pace Ball State, which improved to 18-9 on the season.

The Cardinal bats started hot right out of the gate, scoring three runs in the first inning. Stacy Payton singled to left field that brought two runs around to score. Madison Lee added another run with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Ball State's offense did not cool down.

Haley Dominique scored one on a single down the right field line, making the score 4-0. Back-to-back home runs off the bats of Janae Hogg and Maddie Labrador extended the Cardinal lead to seven runs. A sacrifice fly and an RBI single brought across three more runs, making the score 10-0. Labrador belted her second home run of the game in the top of the third, this one a two-run shot. 

Grace Van Horn started for the Bonnies and put in 1.1 innings of work (7 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 K). Makayla Brzezinski (2.1 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 3 BB) and Burk (1.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) entered in relief for the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure falls to 4-11 and is back in action Sunday with another doubleheader. Game one against Samford is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. CST/11:00 a.m. EST and game two against Belmont will start at 12:15 p.m. CST/1:15 p.m. EST.
