BALTIMORE, MD – Senior Josie Borysevicz tossed a complete game and the St. Bonaventure University softball team grabbed its first victory of the season, 9-1, in five innings against Lafayette at the Coppin State Classic.

Borysevicz was perfect through 4.1 innings, striking out seven of 13 Leopards hitters she faced in that span. An error and a double ended the perfect game and no-hit bid in consecutive plays.

Neither teamed surrendered a hit through the first two and a half innings, but in the bottom of the third the Bonnies' bats erupted for an eight-run inning.

Singles from Elizabeth Enovitch and McKenna Holtz followed by a walk for Alexandra Piergustavo loaded the bases for the Brown and White. With two outs, freshman Grace Perechinsky smacked a bases clearing triple down the right field line to give the Bonnies the lead, 3-0.

Morgan Phillips reached on a throwing error that scored Perechinsky, extending the lead to 4-0. An RBI double from Olivia Golay pushed the lead to five runs and Mikayla Short reached on an error making the lead 6-0.

Later in the inning Enovitch singled, advancing Short to third. Short later scored on the following play after Enovitch stole second and the ball was overthrown, pushing the lead to 7-0. The Bonnies loaded the bases again and Piergustavo drew a walk pushing in the eighth run of the inning.

With Borysevicz making a bid for a five-inning perfect game, the Leopards finally got on the board. A sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth off the bat of Rebecca Dvorak brought the Leopards their first and only run of the contest.

In the bottom of the fifth an RBI single from Piergustavo scored Alexandra Deal to close out the game.

Borysevicz (1-2) finished with an impressive line collecting her first win in the circle this season. She surrendered just one hit and did not allow an earned run while striking out seven and walking none.

The Bonnies improve to 1-6 on the year while Lafayette falls to 1-10.

St. Bonaventure returns to the diamond tomorrow morning against Morgan State. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
