Niagara's Golden Goal Drops Bonnies, 3-2, in OT Despite Torres' Two Goals

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Despite an impressive rally led by two second half goals from graduate forward Cristina Torres, St. Bonaventure dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Little Three rival Niagara, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

Niagara (5-1) led 2-0 at halftime and seemed in control before Torres brought the Bonnies to life, tying the game with two goals in under two minutes.

The Purple Eagles would score the golden goal just before the end of the first overtime, however, as Maia MacLean found the back of the net for the game-winner in the 99th minute.

The visitors scored early with a goal from senior forward Emma Davies on a cross pass from sophomore forward Emma Bough in the fourth minute. Niagara was able to make it 2-0 on a penalty kick goal from graduate midfielder Alexis Horwedel in the 31st minute. In the first half Niagara tallied nine shots, while the Bonnies had two shots. Bona's lone shot on goal came on a free kick from junior defender Kenzie Tarmino.

The Bonnies (2-3-3) were able to strike in the second half with a pair of goals from Torres. In the 64th minute, Torres was able to score on a pass from Kenzie Tarmino to put St. Bonaventure on the board. Torres was able to add the game-tying goal just 1:54 later off a deflection that led to a nice pass from freshman forward Chanel Alexander.

In the first overtime, Niagara freshman midfielder MacLean was able to score the game-winning goal with assists from Emma Bough and Emma Davies.

St. Bonaventure tallied eight shots in the game with two shots on goal by Alexander and three shots on goal by Torres.
