VALPARAISO, Ind.- The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team ended their weekend road trip with a 3-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Valparaiso.
Valparaiso (2-3-1) was able to strike first early in the first half with a goal by freshman forward Addy Joiner in the 13th minute, which was assisted by junior defender Allie Anderson. The Bonnies were outshot by Valpo in the first half 12-3.
Bona's graduate forward Cristina Torres recorded two shots, while senior midfielder Tsianna Barnwell had the lone shot on net for the Bonnies in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger recorded seven saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Valpo extended its lead in the second half with a goal by sophomore forward Lindsey DuSatko in the 53rd minute, which was assisted by sophomore forward Kelsie James. James, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, was able to score in the 70th minute and give Valpo a 3-0 lead, which would end up being the deciding score.
Senior forward Ryan Kunkle had the lone shot on net in the second half for the Bonnies. Gottinger, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, set a new career high in saves with 11, topping her previous career high of 10, which was set in Friday at Eastern Michigan.
The Bonnies (2-2-2) are back on the road on Thursday at Youngstown State. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
