NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Sophomores Lydia Choban and McKenna Robinson scored their first career goals to propel the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory over Merrimack Sunday afternoon.
Choban put the Bonnies in control early with a beautiful 10th minute goal from outside the box. The second-year player took one touch and let a shot go to the upper left corner of the net that gave the Merrimack goalkeeper no chance to save it.
The Bonnies (2-1-1) added an insurance goal just before halftime as Robinson whipped in a corner kick that was deflected into the net just 45 seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded, giving the Bonnies a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Merrimack (0-3-1), however, was able to cut the Bona lead in half to 2-1 just after halftime in the 47th minute when the Warriors broke through for a goal.
The Bonnies would hold off the Merrimack attack the rest of the way to secure their second straight victory. Merrimack held a narrow 13-11 edge in shots and 9-6 in corner kick attempts.
The Bonnies are back in action Friday, Sept. 3 on the road at Eastern Michigan. That game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
