Malcolm Named SBU's NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure Class of 2020 graduate Lauren Malcolm has been selected as the University's NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee.

One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the NCAA established the Woman of the Year Award in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics.

Malcolm turned in one of the finest careers in Bonnies women's soccer history.

She finished her career tied for first all-time in career games in net (74), tied for second for goal against average in a single season (1.21), tied for third for shutouts in a single season (5), third all-time in career shutouts (13) and third all-time in career saves (452). She also owns three of the program's top 12 single season saves totals.

As a freshman, she started in all 19 games, playing every minute in net and made 123 saves, which ranks 10th all-time in program history. In her second season, she led the Atlantic 10 in saves with 120 saves in 18 starts. During the 2018 season, her 128 saves ranked second in the NCAA and ninth all-time in Bonaventure history.

In the classroom, she is a multi-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and graduated with a degree in sociology this past May, also owning a 3.68 GPA.

The NCAA encourages member schools to honor its top graduating female student-athletes each year by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.

Then, conferences assess each nominee's eligibility and select up to two conference nominees. All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.

From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in the fall.
