Filian's Goal, Late Rally Not Enough in 2-1 Setback at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell to George Washington, 2-1, despite a second half comeback effort by the Bonnies Sunday afternoon.

The Colonials (12-1-3, 7-0-1 A-10) showed why they are one of the best teams in the conference just over seven minutes into play.

Rachel Sorkenn received a pass from Kelly Amador and sent a shot just out of the keeper's reach for a 1-0 lead.

George Washington doubled their lead in the 26th minute off a corner from Sofia Pavon. Madi Coyne completed the set piece with a header into the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Despite the Bonnies' first half struggles, they bounced back well after halftime.

The Bonnies (6-9-1, 2-5-1) cut GW's lead in half in the 56th minute when sophomore Kacie Filian netted her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick. Bella May registered an assist on the score.

After being outshot 9-5 in the first half, the Bonnies registered five shots in the second half and generated three corner kicks.

Senior Bella Marra led the Bonnies with three shots on the afternoon, but SBU was unable to erase the early deficit.

The Brown and White will look to bounce back when they travel to Duquesne on Thursday. Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
