NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure women's soccer senior Bella Marra and freshman Kenzie Tarmino have been recognized as Atlantic 10 Players of the Week for their performances in Sunday's victory over Richmond.
Marra's game-winning goal in overtime earned her A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. Tarmino registered the assist on the goal, giving her conference Rookie of the Week honors.
The Bonnies took Richmond into extra time tied 1-1, but Marra made quick work of the first overtime period to send the Bonnies to victory. Marra struck just 29 seconds into the extra period to give Bona a 2-1 victory.
Just moments after the whistle blew to commence overtime, Tarmino collected a pass on the wing. She dribbled up the sideline and crossed the ball to Marra who hammered home a shot inside the post past the arms of the outstretched Spiders keeper for the sudden victory.
For Marra, it was her second career game-winning score, and it was the first since her freshman year. Marra chose a great moment for her first goal of the season, lifting her team to their first conference victory.
Tarmino has been solid in her first year for the Bonnies, starting in every game but one so far this season. The freshman defender has tallied three assists on the year, all of which helped notch game-winning goals for her teammates.
The Bonnies are back in action Thursday evening when they host Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m.
