ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell to Dayton, 1-0, on an early goal in the first half Thursday evening at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The Flyers (4-6-2, 2-1-1 A-10) jumped in front in the 17th minute of the game when Alexis Goins snuck a header just over a leaping goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm for her fifth goal of the season, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Dayton was dominant in the first 20 minutes of the match, registering six shots before the Bonnies (4-7-1, 0-3-1) could put together perhaps their best scoring opportunity of the night.
The Flyers did not allow many opportunities for the Bonnies to even the score after halftime, limiting the Brown and White to four shots after intermission while the visitors put together six shot attempts in the final 45 minutes.
The Bonnies had a chance in the final seconds to knot up the contest off a corner kick, but a defender was able to send the ball out of bounds as time expired.
It is a quick turnaround for the Bonnies as they travel to Saint Louis Sunday, Oct. 6 to battle the first place Billikens. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
