ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A late first half goal through traffic was the difference as visiting Fordham escaped with a 1-0 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team under rainy conditions Sunday at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Fordham continued its hot start, moving to 5-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
Things were scoreless until the waning minutes of the first half. With just two and a half minutes left before halftime, Fordham broke through following a corner kick by Morgan Busacca. The junior midfielder sent her effort into the center of the box where the Rams won the battle through traffic – Milan Bornstein ticked the ball ahead to Lane Cronin who shot through the scrum in front of the net to the near post for a 1-0 lead.
That would be enough as the Fordham attack kept the Bonnies from mounting any real efforts to tie the game. The visitors controlled possession throughout the second half as Bona placed just one shot on net – a first half effort from Isabelle LaBarbera that was turned away by Rams keeper Kelly LaMorte who posted the shutout.
The Bonnies return to the pitch Thursday at Rhode Island with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
