Vis Scores Twice To Lead @BonniesWSoccer Over Bryant, 2-1

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Junior Danielle Vis scored twice and the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team held off a second half charge from visiting Bryant to register a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The victory moves St. Bonaventure to 3-5-1 as the Bonnies wrap up non-conference play while Bryant falls to 4-6-0.

Vis set the tone early, stealing away the ball at midfield and then working her way around a Bryant defender on the right wing. She finished with a blast off her right foot, beating the keeper low for the 1-0 advantage just over five minutes into the contest. Saturday's outing gives Vis a team-leading four tallies on the year and 10 points.

The Bonnies dominated the pace of play during the first half, mounting several chances to add to their lead including a rocket just over the crossbar from Jessica Scruggs during the 40th minute.

Bona finally did add on in the 42nd minute. Sabrina Sousa-Sampson took a pass near midfield, driving up the far sideline where she tapped ahead to Vis. On one touch, Vis drove her shot from approximately 25 yards away past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

After owning a 9-3 edge in shots during the first half, the Bonnies saw Bryant begin to gain momentum during the second half.

Whereas the Bonnies controlled the first period, Bryant gained the edge after intermission. The Bulldogs put the pressure on from the start, with five shots during the first five minutes.

Bryant would break through in the 56th minute as Cayla D'Amico scored to cut the deficit in half.

Bona would make that lead stick though, with goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm making a tremendous save in the late going to maintain the lead.

Malcolm finished with seven saves to earn the victory in net.

St. Bonaventure begins Atlantic 10 play with a trip to George Mason on Thursday night.
