PHILADELPHIA — The St. Bonaventure Bonnies women's lacrosse team fell on the road to the La Salle Explorers, 14-3.
"We didn't compete nearly hard enough today," Bonnies head coach Jason Levesque said. "There's part of me that thinks that we're still learning, and our young group is going through some growing pains. And that is true, to some extent, but we're seven games in. There's still lessons in be learned, but competing harder shouldn't be one of them at this point. As a group, we've got to find a little more."
It was all Explorers right from the get go. La Salle scored goals on seven of its first eight shots to take a commanding 7-0 lead just 17 minutes into the game that they never looked back from.
At the break, La Salle led 10-1 with the only SBU goal coming off the stick of freshman Maddie Mazur. It was her fifth straight game with a goal.
In the second half, senior Destinee Johnson and sophomore Courtney Fox added their names to the Bonnies scoring tally — Johnson's eighth of the season and Fox's team-leading ninth — but ultimately could never get SBU back into the game.
In net for SBU, all three of the team's goalies saw action. Junior Hayley McIntyre played a team-high 30 minutes —all in the second half—allowing four goals while collecting three saves. Senior Savannah Clarke and Ashley Herrick each played 15 minutes in the first half, combining for 10 goals allowed and two saves.
The Bonnies return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex when they welcome in UMass.
