HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate came away a 20-2 winner Friday afternoon in the season-opener for the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team.
The Raiders (1-0) controlled from the outset, striking first just 11 seconds in on a goal from Grace Bowers as part of a 3-0 run over the first 5:04.
Freshman Abby Hiltz gave the Bonnies their first tally of the year with her first collegiate goal off an assist from Jerica Obee at 23:50, but Colgate would ultimately take a 13-1 lead to halftime and never looked back.
"Colgate is big and fast and we were just outmatched and outplayed for much of the game," Bonnies head coach Jason Levesque said. "Kathy Taylor is also a Hall of Fame Coach, she's doing an unreal job with the program. I have no doubt they'll win the Patriot League in the not too distant future. With a third of our lineup playing their first college game, as well as a number of sophomores with only a handful of games under them, today was definitely an eye-opening experience for our group. There were some glimpses of greatness through the game though, but not enough, and perhaps most importantly not consistently. We'll regroup and get focused on another strong opponent in Albany this week."
Rebecca Howe also scored for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure is next scheduled to play at Albany Thursday at 1 p.m.
