NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After helping St. Bonaventure to two wins over the weekend, senior attack Destinee Johnson and freshman midfielder Nora Anderson captured Atlantic 10 weekly honors, conference officials announced Monday.
Johnson earned Player of the Week accolades after a tremendous weekend. In wins at Hartford and at Central Connecticut State, Johnson registered 11 goals and two assists. She scored on 55 percent of her 20 shots and put 80 percent of her shots on goal.
Against Hartford Friday, Johnson tallied five goals to set a new personal single-game best.
Then, on Sunday against CCSU, she quickly eclipsed her career-high by finding the back of the cage six times. That performance tied the best single-game amount by a Bonnies player since Taylor Fallon in 2017 and just two off the all-time record set by Tracy Domm vs LeMoyne in 2002 and Katelyn Faas vs Niagara in 2006.
Anderson earned A-10 Rookie of the Week after making a statement in her collegiate debut at Hartford Friday. The Pittsford, N.Y. native scored two goals and added two assists while scooping up six ground balls.
She followed that up Sunday with a goal and assist. The goal was key down the stretch. She converted from the free position with 8:03 on the clock to give the Bonnies a 9-7 lead as the squad held on for a 10-9 triumph at CCSU.
Johnson is the first A-10 Player of the Week since LeighAnn Stauffer in 2017. Anderson is the first A-10 Rookie of the Week since Mikayla Place in 2013. Place '16 now ranks third all-time in assists and eighth all-time in points in program history.
St. Bonaventure (2-0) will host Kent State this Friday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
