ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team lost their 2019 season opener to the Lafayette Leopards, 18-1, Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The Bonnies were the first to crack the scoreboard Sunday afternoon when senior attack Rylee Arnold beat the Leopards' keeper just 54 seconds into the game. It was Arnold's 51st career goal.
The Bonnies were in striking distance at halftime, with the score a surmountable 8-1, but the Leopards kept their first half momentum and carried it through to the end of the game, blanking the Bonnies the rest of the way.
St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Savannah Clarke, making her second career start, collected 10 saves through her 60 minutes in the cage while facing 28 shots.
On offense, junior attack Destinee Johnson fired eight shots, five on goal, but was unsuccessful in the face of Leopards goalkeepers Lacy Quinn and Taylor Danson, who combined for 13 saves on 14 shots faced.
The Bonnies next hit the road to play at Little Three rival Niagara on Feb 13. The early afternoon tilt will kick off at 2:30 p.m.
That contest begins a four-game road swing with the Bonnies not returning home until March 16 in a Sunday afternoon matchup against Robert Morris.
