ST. BONAVENTURE, NY – The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team made a run in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the George Mason Patriots came away with a 15-8 win Friday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
George Mason completely dominated the first-half of play taking a 13-1 advantage into the half. The Patriots out-shot the Bonnies 26-4 in the first and won 14 of the 15 draw controls.
St. Bonaventure's lone goal came when Olivia MacDonald scored to tie the game at 1, after that Mason would go to score 12 unanswered goals to finish the half.
It was a different story in the second half as the Bonnies came alive. The defense locked down, limiting the Patriots to just two goals while the offense caught fire scoring seven times. In the end St. Bonaventure simply ran out of time unable to overcome the slow start falling 15-8.
Mason would score the first goal of the second half for its largest lead at 14-1, but over the next 14 minutes, the Brown and White dominated. Julia Davidson, Destinee Johnson, Olivia MacDonald Gabrielle Bradley and Ashley Easterday all netted goals in the second half for St. Bonaventure.
In net, Morgan Conroy played all 60 minutes facing 31 shots and making 16 saves. The senior was tested often in the first half facing 26 shots in the frame.
George Mason was led by Erin Donoghue who scored a team high 5 goals. Chachi Kelehan scored 4 and Corinne Wessels chipped in with three goals and two assists.
