BETHLAHEM, Pa. – Rylee Arnold scored two goals Saturday afternoon, but the St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 18-5 in the 2018 season opener.
The junior midfielder scored in the opening minute, giving the Bonnies a 1-0 lead with the season's first goal.
The Mountain Hawks would take the momentum back just a minute later, however, when Mary Ellen Carron put Lehigh on the board, knotting the score at 1-1. That strike would start a run of eight straight goals for the Mountain Hawks as the hosts captured control.
A goal by Abby Lagoner with 7:45 remaining in the first half halted the Bonnies' drought, but Lehigh would take a 10-3 advantage to halftime.
St. Bonaventure attempted a rally in the early minutes of the second half with Ashley Easterday bringing the Bonnies within six after her goal.
Lehigh would finish the game on another run, however, to sail to victory.
Arnold led the Bonnies by netting a pair of goals, finishing with eight shots and four shots on goal.
Morgan Conroy made 17 saves in net.
The Bonnies are off until Tuesday, Feb. 20 when they host Vermont in the home opener at the Marra Athletics Complex. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
