Bonnies drop close game at Jacksonville, 14-12

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a tale of two halves for the St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team as the Dolphins led at the half 10-2, and the Bonnies out-scored Jacksonville 10-4 in the second half, but it was not enough as Jacksonville won 14-12 on a sunny Saturday morning at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The loss drops the Brown and White to 0-3 on the season while Jacksonville improves to 1-4 in its inaugural year.

Senior captain Molly Hastrich led all scorers with six goals and one assists while Danielle Drabin had a hat trick of her own and added an assist on one of Hastrich’s goals.

Similar to their contest against Florida, the Bonnies struggled on the offensive end in the first frame only mustering two goals to the Dolphins 10. It looked like St. Bonaventure was going to go into the half with only one goal before Drabin passed it to Hastrich to score the second goal of the half.

St. Bonaventure was ready to play scoring four straight goals out of the break to trail 10-6 with 25:53 left on the clock. Jacksonville went on its own 3-1 run to lead 13-7 at 13:52 before the Bonnies scored four more consecutive goals including one of Christine Hanley’s two goals to come with in two, 13-11 with less than three minutes remaining.

The teams each added one more goal to their totals, but the Dolphins’ first half lead was just enough to secure the win for the game.

Sophomore Victoria Morgan picked up the loss in 25:29 minutes of work, saving four of 12 shots faced and allowing eight goals. Senior Tori Waheibi also saw 34:31 minutes between the pipes tallying five saves.

The Bonnies get a short break before hosting their first “home game” when they welcome Robert Morris on Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. The game originally scheduled for McGraw-Jennings field has been moved to Erie, Pa. at Gannon University due to bad field conditions.
