ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Three St. Bonaventure players - sophomore guard Shannon Bodamer and freshmen Stephanie Merlo and Megan Cable - have requested and were granted their releases from the women's basketball program. In accordance with NCAA regulations, all three may now transfer to another institution and participate in basketball.
Bodamer played in 27 of 28 games this season for the Bonnies, starting 14 of them. The Bonnies' assist leader, averaging 2.6 a game, Bodamer also averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest.
Merlo finished fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.4 points per game. Merlo finished second on the team with 40 three-point baskets. She also averaged 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Cable saw limited action in 19 games scoring 16 points and grabbing 25 rebounds total.
St. Bonaventure finished the 2003-04 season 9-19 overall. The Bonnies signed three players to National Letters of Intent in the early signing period last fall. Guards Amanda Pierce (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area), Maripier Malo (Montreal, Quebec/Montmorency College) and Nadia Roc (Cote St.-Luc, Quebec/Vanier College) will join the Bonnies next season.
