ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team suffered a 69-49 setback against Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.
Rhode Island's momentum from the first half carried into the second half as the Rams went on a 9-2 run to start the third quarter, pushing their lead to 51-31.
URI's lead grew to as many as 22 in the fourth quarter as the Rams held on to earn the victory.
The Rams came out firing on all cylinders in the first half Saturday, jumping out to a 43-29 lead after the first 20 minutes. Rhode Island shot 60.7 percent from the floor and 61.5 percent from beyond the arc in the first half to jump out to the early advantage.
Back-to-back Rhode Island threes gave the Rams a 21-9 advantage with 1:27 remaining in the first quarter.
The Bonnies were able to cut the deficit to seven, 32-25, in the second quarter after an Olivia Brown three pointer with 3:27 left in the half.
Rhode Island (9-7, 9-4) answered by opening up its biggest lead of the game, 43-29, heading into the locker room for halftime.
Marie-Paule Foppossi poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Rams while Johanna Muzet registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bonnies are back in action Monday, Feb. 22 when Duquesne visits the Reilly Center. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
- The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 42.3 percent (22-for-52) from the floor while Rhode Island shot 44.8 percent (26-for-58).
- St. Bonaventure was +10 in the points in the paint against URI, outscoring the Rams 32-22.
- Sophomore I'yanna Lops scored in double figures for the sixth time this season.
- Prior to the game Saturday afternoon the Bonnies honored their two seniors, Emily Calabrese and Jurnee President.
