Bonnies Fall To Duquesne On Senior Day

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Three scorers in double figures were not enough as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Duquesne, 80-57, Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center on Senior Day.

Asianae Johnson led the way with a game-high 17 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Also in double figures for the Bonnies were Deja Francis with 14 points and Jurnee President added 13. Emily Calabrese notched her four game this season of double-digit rebounds with 11.

The Bonnies and Dukes combined for 76 first half points as Duquesne shot 50 percent from the floor while St. Bonaventure checked in at 46.7 percent.

Bona got eight first quarter points from President and trailed Duquesne by four, 25-21, after the first period.

The Dukes stayed hot, capping off a 10-0 run to push their lead to 29-21 with 8:13 on the clock.

 A pair of buckets from Emily Calabrese and another from President brought the Bonnies back within two, 29-27, with just over seven minutes to play in the half.

Duquesne would take control for the rest of the quarter, taking a 43-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The hot shooting continued for Duquesne as its lead grew to 21 in the third quarter, 57-36.

It was all Dukes the rest of the way, continuing to grow their lead in the fourth quarter.

Duquesne grabbed its biggest lead of the contest at 80-52 with 28 seconds remaining in the game, securing the victory.

Libby Bazelak led the way for the Dukes with 13 points.


The Bonnies hit the road for the first round of the 2020 Atlantic 10 Tournament Tuesday, March 3. Opponent and start time are yet to be determined.
