Slow Start Limits Bonnies In 78-51 Defeat At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – A slow start and cold shooting saw the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fall to Dayton, 78-51, at the UD Arena Wednesday evening.

Deja Francis led the Bonnies with 16 points, four rebounds and five assists. Also in double figures for the Bonnies was Jurnee President who added 12 points.

The Flyers came out firing on all cylinders Wednesday night, shooting 50 percent in the first period. Dayton opened the contest with a 6-0 run.

The Bonnies, however, went on a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game up early.

Dayton snatched momentum right back and took control of the contest with a 22-0 run that started with 5:07 on the clock in the first and lasted nearly 10 minutes, growing the Flyer lead to 28-6.

President snapped the Bonnies cold streak with a three-point play with 5:52 on the clock in the second.

The Flyers grew their lead to as many as 22 in the half and took a 15-point, 37-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A President layup and a pair of Francis free throws but the Bonnies deficit to 12, 38-24, 8:43 to play in the third.

After Dayton pushed its lead to back to 18, President hit a three pointer to bring the Bona deficit back to 15, 49-34, with 4:01 on the clock.

Olivia Brown looked to spark a comeback in the fourth, opening the quarter with a three pointer of her own just 11 seconds into the period.

Dayton squashed any chance for the comeback as its leads grew to 25, 66-41, with 5:08 to play.

The Flyers lead grew to 31 in the period as they closed out the Bonnies, 78-51.

Jayla Scaife registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Dayton.
