ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team along with the Pink Pumpkin Project and Olean General Hospital were able to raise $3,543 to go toward helping area community members battling cancer.

The Bonnies were able to defeat Atlantic 10 foe Davidson, 68-56, on the court as part of their annual Pink Game presented by Paul Brown Motors Sunday, Feb. 9, but what was more important is what happened off the court. The Bonnies and the community were able to raise money for local cancer care through donations, raffle tickets, a "Shoot for Hope" contest and T-shirt purchases.

The weekend got underway when members of the team met with the Pink Pumpkin Project on Friday night.

"Having the women's team meet some of the fighters and survivors was a fabulous way to kick off the weekend," Lynn Anzivine of the Pink Pumpkin Project said. "Sunday, the Pink game was everything that we could have hoped it to be and so much more. It truly was a testimony of what community support means, especially to those battling cancer. We look forward to more events with SBU and OGH. We are so blessed to live in such a wonderful area. It's true, they say, 'You will never outdo what God has planned for you' and we know He's not done yet."

"It would be tough to think of our community without St. Bonaventure, The Pink Pumpkin Project or Olean General Hospital," Steve Jackson of Olean General Hospital said. "On Sunday afternoon, during the Pink Game, was a wonderful showcase of how our community's assets lifted up together to change lives. Throughout the game there were individuals and families sharing their "Fight Story" with Dr. Hare and others from the PPP, it was heart-filled, electric was in the air. The ladies played well and topping it off with a "W". Together we are stronger!"
